dc.description | Dr. Marion E. Shea, second president of William Paterson University (then Paterson State College) and the first woman president of a New Jersey state teachers college speaking in an undated photograph. Under her leadership (1954-1966), the college went through a vigorous period of enrollment growth and facility expansion, including construction of a library, gymnasium, dining hall, and the music facility that bears her name, the Shea Center for Performing Arts. Date is approximate based on Dr. Shea's tenure as president of Paterson State College and the pre-1959 American Flag on display at the ceremony. | en_US |
